About fifteen years ago, I bought a box of LPs and books at a country auction near Newton Stewart in south west Scotland. I was only after the 1st pressing Sgt Pepper's LP which I happened to notice in the box! I didn't know it at the time but the auctioneer afterwards told me that they all belonged to Ottilie Patterson but I must confess that I didn't know who she was. I gave almost all the LPs away to a jazz-fanatic friend but held onto the books and a few German Chris Barber singles. I still have the books which comprise thirty Peanuts paperbacks (Charlie Brown, Snoopy etc) from the late 1950s to the early 1970s. Fifteen of them are signed on the inside page with (variously) "Ottilie USA 1962", "To Ottilie with love from Chris, Dusseldorf 14.11.1970". That kind of thing over the years. One is signed "To Chris & Ottilie from Derrick Stewart-Baxter" but with no date. Many are simply "Ottilie" with a place and a date. If I've done this properly there should be two photos attached as illustrations. I'm sorry to say that I am not a great trad jazz fanatic, not yet anyway, but I realise that these books are quite special and that someone else might derive more pleasure from them. My simple question is .... what should I do with them for the best? For example, if Chris himself wished to have them I'd be happy to send them to him. Any ideas? John Adair
Hi John, just reading this a long time after the original post. Do you still have the Peanuts books?
