If you were stranded on a desert island, what Chris Barber tracks would you like to have with you? I’ll start the ball rolling with “New Orleans” (from "Take Me back To New Orleans", with Dr. John), and “New Orleans Wiggle” (from the recent Lake Records double-CD reissue, "Live In Switzerland”). “Barbican Blues” would be another one, and “Devaluation Blues”.....the list goes on.

Ed, a very difficult choice with more than 50 years of music to listen to!

Anyway here are a few that come to mind.

Skokiaan (with Bertie King as) Royal Festival Hall 30 October 1954 (Lake LACD141/2)

Easy, Easy, Baby (Ottilie) Berlin 23 May 1959 (Lake LACD210D)

Snag It (John Crocker's first recording session) Olympic Studios 7 July 1968 (Marmalade 608009)(or the later version with the Band and Bob Hunt's Ellingtonians) Live, Hanley, 11 December 2000. (Timeless TD641)

Ubava Zabava, Live at Marquee Club 5 April 1970, (Bell BLR 89 300)

Czikosh, Weinfelden 7 February 1974 (Lake LACD 208D)

When Evil Shall Cease (Doctor John) Marquee Club 15 April 1983 (Timeless TD546/7)

Jazz Elements (with Grosse Rundfunk Orchester) Berlin, live 13/14 July 1988

Good Morning Blues (Lonnie, Van Morrison, and Doctor John)Live Whitla Hall, Belfast 20 November 1998 Exile/Virgin 7243 8 48307

Favourite albums? too many! but listen to Louis Jordan and Chris Barber (Black Lion BLCD 760156) and Swing is Here (John Lewis and Trummy Young, Black Lion BLVD 760517)

I could add more! There were many musicians with whom Chris has played, and who were, unfortunately, not recorded such as Maria Muldaur, Tommy Tucker, Alvin Alcorn, Sonny Boy Williamson, Jimmy Witherspoon and many others (luckily for us, other artists were recorded over the years)

When you strand on a desert island, you usually don´t know how long to stay there. So I´ve found my own solution: I bought me an mp3 player with 20 Gigabyte HD and - now that I´m retired - trandferred my whole collection of Chris Barber LP´s and CD´s into mp3 format. So I can take 1085 different recordings (assorted by recording date)with me to the island.
