Local musician Frogg Moody and myself are currently researching and writing a book on the music scene in Salisbury, Wiltshire in the 1950s and 1960s.
We know that Chris Barber appeared here during that period, and if anybody has any memories, photographs or memorabilia relating to those shows (or for that matter any local acts or other acts that appeared in Salisbury), we would love to hear from them. My e-mail address is firstname.lastname@example.org
I also run a website on a similar theme that you might like to take a look at: http://www.southwilts.com/site/bluemoonraker
Thank you for your time.
Back around the turn of the Millenium some friends & I saw Chris Barber along with Kenny Ball & another jazz band which had the Vibrafone as its lead.Play one weekday evening in a converted chapel/church I think it is mainly a night club. a lot of the street had youngies bars, there was a side street called halfpenny street or something like that. It was a good evening some of us danced.
I also saw Lonnie Donigen play at City hall around 2 years ago he did a brilliant show, his 2 sons played in his band both talanted musicians. I remember Lonnie giving so much to his performance he was exhausted after it. One month later on the same tour we were to sadly hear that Lonnie had died, so it made seeing him more precious.
